About
Glittery adornments are amusing (and dare I say it – almost necessary) and it seemed appropriate to name my blog after something a little whimsical. Confetti in her hair made me smile because it brought to mind a person who lives for the moment. And of course, probably accessorized with something sparkly.
Born and raised in Minnesota, I’m a pretty laid back gal who grew up on a lovely dairy farm in a town that literally had more cows than residents (I think the last official population count is 586), which looking back, was a wonderful way to grow up. I think it contributed to my natural curiosity – always trying to figure out life’s “why’s and how’s and what’s.” I’m sure I drove my parents batty. I’m very lucky to have a wonderfully tight knit, hilarious and supportive group of family and friends.
What I love:
Laughing often (sarcasm is also quite welcome)
Unfussy entertaining
The number 11 (My birthday is 11.11, so I’ve always had a natural affinity for the number)
Joie de vivre
Conversation digressions
A well made martini served straight up with olives
My passport
Animals. I have two rescue cats from local shelters and they’re awesomely hilarious. In case you’re wondering, I also love dogs.
Champagne. Sparkling wine. Prosecco. Basically any beverage with bubbles.
Lip gloss (a girl can never have enough)
Surrounding yourself with things that make you smile (hello, peonies!)
Anything gold
And most importantly, spending time with the people you love and love you
So why start a blog? And why start now? In a nutshell – I’ve been talking to my friends about a blog for years (bless their hearts for putting up with my constant, this time I’m really going to do it nonsense). So in 2012, I wrote starting and more importantly, maintaining a blog down as one of my goals. I also have this weird satisfaction from crossing off things on my to-do lists, so this motivation has propelled me to actually start this time. I love reading other blogs and seeing things that inspire. I’ve narrowed down the focus of this blog to some of my favorite “f” words:
Food I love food. And everything about it. I love the smells, the stories and am always on the holy grail hunt for the perfect (insert any food here). I love to cook and I’m lucky that Mr. B and I have the perfect arrangement – I make the dinner and he cleans up the mess (bless his heart). We equally love to check out new restaurants or visit our favorite haunts. I consider reading menus a sport and can spend hours devouring reviews and checking out images from restaurants, especially when traveling. My favorite foods include:
My mom’s amazing potstickers
Cioppino (Anchor in San Francisco is my hands down favorite)
In & Out’s double and double animal style burger. For reals, someone in Minnesota needs to come up with a version! I’ll be your most loyal customer.
Jean Georges’ signature red snapper dish
Punch Pizza’s margarita pizza (you must try this pizza if you’re anywhere close to the Twin Cities)
Stone crab with mustard sauce
Fashion My first magazine I ever purchased was Vogue. Purchased at the local Corner Store in Freeport, I remember reading it sitting on a bunch of feed bags waiting for my parents to pick me up from the activity bus. I couldn’t believe the colors, the clothes, the models! It was almost too much for my eighth grade eyes. Almost. I’ve since embraced anything to do with fashion and am lucky to work in an industry where creativity is encouraged. And like most girls, don’t even get me started on purses or shoes. It’s dangerous.
Flight My brother and I were lucky that our parents believed in seeing things firsthand and that usually meant some sort of travel. From the traditional Disney trip to an eye-popping China/Japan adventure, our family encouraged exploration. Looking back, I wish I didn’t take traveling for granted, so I’ve made the promise that in the future, I will always enjoy my surroundings and learn to experience where I am and what it has to offer. I’m lucky that Mr. B shares the same sense of adventure. We’ve taken some wonderful trips together and I look forward to many more. Here’s to collecting some more passport stamps!
