I had the pleasure of meeting Katie Cazorla last week when she was in town to promote her TV Guide show, Nail Files. A petite beauty powerhouse (who is also hilarious), Katie is not only promoting the second season of her reality show, Nail Files, in addition to running a successful salon business, but rumor has it she’s in serious talks with a local company to bring a line of her products to the masses. What are some of the nail trends you’re excited to see this fall?

Anything jewel-toned will be big. 3-D nails will also be popular. I really like the neon trend, too. I don’t think neon is going to go away for fall, especially if it’s chartreuse.

What are you fave go-to beauty items?

Hands down (pun intended), cuticle oil, a good topcoat and sunblock for your hands. Supergoop makes a sunblock I like. People know they should apply sunblock on their face to help fight wrinkles, but forget about their necks and hands, where aging shows first.

Where do you see your business in five years?

I’ve had a lot of inquiries to franchise my nail salon, but I want to make sure we have a well-oiled machine before that happens. Until then, definitely a product line that’s widely accessible to people.

What is the craziest thing a client’s requested for her nails?

I just had a client come in with a sonogram photo and wanted to have that image on her nails! We were able to do this with the nail printer we have at the salon and our client was able to announce to her family and friends about the baby by showing her nails.

What business advice would you give budding entrepreneurs?

Have a very strong vision of what you want to do. And above all – you have to have heart for the idea and a great deal of passion for it, because otherwise you will burn yourself out if you don’t believe in it.

Was there anything that caught you off guard while filming Nail Files?

What you see on our show is what you get, although when I see an episode there are definitely things I don’t remember saying at all – it’s hard to remember sometimes what I said three days ago!

Where inspires you?

I’m inspired by my clients and what I see around me – you never know when something will inspire you.

What’s your favorite nail polish?

Anything with glitter (hey, she’s my type of gal)!
