I like the idea of exercise. But I don’t have an athletic bone in my body. I’ve tried golf (I’m much better at driving the cart), running (uh, no) and basketball (not unless you want to lose). So it really takes a lot of motivation for me to exercise in the traditional sense. Which is why my interest was piqued when I heard about the Nike Fuelband. According the Nike, the Fuelband tracks your movement and translates it into “fuelpoints.” In addition, it tracks steps, gives you the time and approximate calories burned. You set your own goal and once you reach it, the display explodes in a fantastic display (which let’s admit it, is a cool idea). Goals can be tracked online and on the iPhone app, which definitely helps motivate the wearer to keep moving. I’ve had mine for about a month and I can say that it does keep me in check. I’m the type of person who takes great satisfaction in crossing things off a to-do list, and the Fuelband gives me the same feeling, but at least more calories are being burnt in the process.
If you live in New York, you can purchase the Fuelband in the Niketown located in midtown, otherwise the rest of us can go online to get one.
